Matthew 24:31
And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
After doing a blog on the chapter of Revelation (link to my blog), I decided to go looking for other instances of eschatology in the Bible.
There are quite a few websites that have collections of verses concerning echatology, and this verse from Matthew grabbed my attention tonight. It is like the cliff's notes of Revelation; it tells us that at a point in the future after a trumpet call Jesus will send out his angels to gather his followers together.
The entry on this verse at bibleref.com says that "the four winds" refers to the four directions on earth, so Jesus gathers his followers from all corners of the earth. With regard to "the elect" the writer at bibleref, in the entry linked above, says, "to be "elect" is to be chosen, and these people are chosen by God to be His children forever."
