Luke 21:25-28

25 “There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting from fear and the expectation of the things that are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

In these verses Jesus is describing what is to come in the end times. He describes his return as a truly awe-inspiring event, which is why he warns us in Matthew 24:26 not to believe it if people begin to describe the appearance of a Messiah here or there on earth, because his return will be otherwordly and unmistakable, and there will be no confusion about what is taking place.

Christ is also telling us that people who are not His followers are going to have very dramatic reactions to biblical prophecy coming true. This is to be expected, as we really don't experience cataclysmic events very often in our daily lives. Most of us may live through a tornado or a flood or even a volcanic eruption or some other kind of natural disaster once or twice at most, or watch events like these on television or the internet. Christ is assuring us his return will be an event of that magnitude, and that people will react with complete panic and terror.

Christ also wants us to know, though, that for his followers it will be a time of rejoicing, not terror, and that we just need to remain calm and serene in the knowledge that we will soon be going home with Him. I hope that everyone reading His words will accept Salvation from Christ so that we can all go together with Christ to our Heavenly Home.
